Gallery: Music: Northumbrian composers: Light over Lindisfarne

Inspired by Derek Hobbs's 'The Turning'. The subject of the music and of these paintings is the coastal journey to Lindisfarne, and the journey back in time to the 7th century. The gospels were painted by monks on the island, using colours from local herbs such as madder (rubus tinctoria) and woad as well as precious ultramarine (lapis lazuli) brought across the oceans from Baluchistan.
